Do they sell baby turtles in...

Question

I am thinking of getting a baby turtle but do not know where to get one. So do they sell them at pet-smart and pet co mabye near Troy, MI

Is it illegal?

It is against federal regulations for any company or business to buy or sell ANY turtle or tortoises under 4" long. No pet store that cares about animal welfare will violate the regulation.

You CAN buy them legally directly from a breeder or individual at a reptile expo, etc.

By the way, some shady stores get around the rule by pretending to sell them for 'educational or scientific purposes' or as food- but they are still in violation of the letter and spirit of the regulations.

IF..you have allot of $$$$ and start out with a 60 gal plus size tank and great filtration system for Aquatic turtles I say do it!

They are the cutest!

Sliders, Cooters , painted ,map and yellow bellied are require the same care and feeding. I have two that are 36 yrs old!! Plus an 8 and 5 yr old.

I have had them in a pond for about 6 yrs now..

just know they get to be 12" and eat alot of goldfish and minows or guppies..lettuce ..they need to bask 8 to 10 hrs a day. NEED a BIG tank and filter system.

the 4 inch law is only about selling them its okay to buy them so madkins is wrong

At th petsmart and pet co where I live they do not sell baby turtles. I got mine at a flee market.

yea they sell them at pets mart....

Bout 10-40 dollars.

In Michigan, the DNR has made it law..  you are not allowed to OWN (most states it's sell.. here, it's OWN or Sell)  a turtle under a specific length..  so, you are out of luck..  (even if you go out and get it from the wild, if you are caught with it you get a hefty fine)
