Do they speak English in University's in Hong Kong?

And what about the people? They speak both Cantonese and English or what? :)

  3. Cantonese is the common dialect in Hong Kong and English is used in the U. The spoken English is more of American and their mandarin is not good but chnese written is very good.    

  4. yes of course. HOng kong was taken over by England for 100 years. HOng kong's official languages are Cantonese and English. So you'll find that most schools teach in english and cantonese as well.

  7. oc cos we do! we learned Eng since we were a kid in kindergarten til U-grad. although, we might not know ur slang as we r using cantonese as our communication but stil......most of the U students knew Eng n can communciate w/ u w/o any prob.  

  8. Both English and Cantonese are spoken.  In fact throughout Hong Kong both languages are spoken.

  10. It is a requirement applicants have to meet some English level requirement before being admitted to an university in HK.

    Most local people(students) communicate among themselves in Cantonese. English is understood within university, documents and teaching mainly in English, but note that students have different levels of English. Some students have learning difficulty because they are not used to English learning enviroment as they studied in Chinese schools before.

    Some people in HK speak foreign accents, most speak in HK accent and some no English at all
