Hep C when your pregnant?

The reason I ask is because my mother in law and father in law both have it, and have had it since before my husband was born. Is it possible to transfer to the child? And sexually? I've looked it up online, but I haven't found exactly the answers I'm looking for, and I'm going to ask at my doctors appointment on Monday. I've started to get concerned, because if you can pass it to your unborn child, and hes had it his whole life and didn't know it...then we got together and now I'm pregnant.

Anyway! Anyone know anything about this?

  1. Hep C is a standard test when planning to get pregnant. Within Hep C some forms are quite easy to transfer some others aren't. Your husband may not have it at all.

Anyway a simple blood test will give you a quick answer.

About 5 percent of babies born to mothers with the virus contract it. That is relatively low, so even if you have the virus it doesn't mean your baby will. Also, the father cannot give the baby the virus since it is passed through blood to blood contact. You should definitely ask your doctor about testing tomorrow because they can do things to reduce the risk of spreading the disease if you have it. Good luck, and I hope you and your baby are very healthy.
