  1. Actually...i think some horses were disqualified for taking an illegal substance that was meant to make the horses skin super-sensitive so that they'll be less likely to touch the obstacles. SO yeah..they do test them.

  2. yes. in fact i beleive the germans were stripped of the gold medal in team equestrian at athens in '04 because a horse tested dirty.

  3. yea some horses got busted for doping today, stupid owners trying to get away for it.

The horses are treated like people, each one even has its own passport, papers describing their origin, city of birth, owners, etc.

They get tested daily, food is checked, and blood tests.

I feel sorry for the horses who get drugged, they have no control over their lives

  4. The international federation (FEI) revealed that four names missing from last night’s start list, including the No 1 ranked Norwegian Tony Andre Hansen, had been provisionally suspended after their horses tested positive for the banned substance capsaicin.

Capsaicin has hypersensitising as well as pain relieving properties.

The same substance was detected in all four cases and the quartet will remained suspended until the results of B samples are known.

That outcome is likely to result in Norway losing the bronze medal in the teams’ competition, an event in which Hansen played an influential role for the Scandinavian team with just the one time penalty.

So yes, the horses are tested just like all other athletes. The drugs they usually give the horses are pain relievers (as Jumping is stressful on their legs) and hypersensitising drugs which accentuates the pain when the horse hits a pole.

  5. Yes, actually they do get tested, just like the athletes.

Four horses this year tested positive for the drugs.
