Do they use white copper in wire?

we have loads of wire that non magnetic and looks like silver someone told me it was called white copper and that it was worth a few bucks if we scraped it.

  1. If it is heavy wire, then the silvery stuff is probably aluminum which is still used for major power lines and was used in houses until it faults became apparent.   There is a market in scrap aluminum, but be prepared for a hassle because thieves have been ripping it out of buildings under construction or still in use and selling it .


  2. If its aluminum, you can sell it for scrap aluminum but I believe all the building codes now prohibit its use as power wiring.  

    Caught fire too often.  A big item in the early '70s, banned now and only worth its scrap value.
