I'm talking about the propane powered ones. They say they can collapse the population of biting insects within 1 acre in about 4 or 5 weeks. But they're too expensive to buy without knowing for sure they actually work. I was thinking about splitting on one with my neightbor

  1. I really don't know if they work, I know some of the bug zappers work.

  2. Such devices work by ATTRACTING insects to the machine, thus bringing bugs right where you don't want them (as do bug lights). The best way to use any device of this nature is to set it up in a safe area adjacent to the one in use. This action removes the insect populations from populated areas.

A far less expensive method of reducing mosquito populations is performing cleanup sweeps to prevent areas where they reproduce. Abandoned tires, wet leaf piles, neglected animal dishes, puddles, etc. provide water for reproduction. If such areas are regularly dried up, the insects will move on. Feeder goldfish naturally eat mosquito larvae from ponds and watering troughs for very little investment.
