  1. Digital sound is definitely better than analog sound by a huge margin. There is no difference between coax and fiber optic (Toslink). HDMI has the capability of transmitting better sound than that using a Blu-ray player and advanced lossless codecs. In short hook up the fiber connection. You can get a cable from Newegg for about $10 and it will work just as well as any other more expensive cable. But do hook up the digital sound. You won't believe how good your sound system sounds when you do!

  2. hmmm it depends. if you are listening to music you wont notice any difference at all. you would have to have the so called "golden ears" and a REALLY good stereo. if you are watching movies that are encoded in surround sound (dolby digital or thx) then you can only get it with a digital cable like an optical cable. an analog rca cable will not be able to transfer a digital signal. so if you watch alot of movies and have a surround sound setup then go for it. if not you wont notice any difference in quality of the sound. its just analog cables like the ones you have cant do everything. get the cheapest optical cable you can because as long as a digital signal is transferred there is no way for it to be better or worse unlike analog connections. so dont go and buy monster cables as you are spending money on the name only. i hope this helps.

  3. If you are using the rca (composite audio, left channel and right channel out) ot the tv and you are connecting it to the aux in of your home theater receiver, you are connecting analog sound that is at best Dolb Pro Logic. If your TV has a digital toslink audio out, it means it has digital bitsteream coming out and you can have a 5.1 Dolby Digital connection to the toslink in of your receiver. The Digital sound (Dobly Digita processing) is better than your regular analog (pro logic surround) set up.
