Check your manual. If it says 'premium suggested' then you can put regular in, it just wont get as good fuel economy or as good performance. But if it says 'premium required' then all you can use is premo.

No, but if you have the extra money to throw away go right a head and spend the extra money.  Any vehicle will run on regular fuel, car companies have stock in oil companies so guess why they recommend you use premium fuel in your cars.

It depends on the year. Newer ones run on regular, but 95-99 models required Premium fuel. If anyone wants to argue it, you'll see that the owner's manual back then says Premium fuel and the Camry V6 and Lexus ES300 were essentially the same car and they required Premium fuel. They had the 1MZFE 3.0 liter 24 valve twin cam V6 that required Premium fuel.

The thing that really matters is the RON of the fuel.(OK, fuel additives is important too) Car that have high compression ratio requires the high RON of premium fuel to prevents knocking(premature combustion). Toyota Avalon can should be accepting fuel with RON 92 or above.

Check the owners manual - if it recommends Premium gas then you should use it. If it does NOT then don't do it because you will be causing long range problems.

The premium fuel doesn't burn fully and collects on the plates of the catalytic converter, these plates heat up with the build up on them, eventually they cause the converter to "burn out".  Ever replaced one? If not expect to pay at least $700 - $2k !!  Just because you wanted the privilege to use Premium fuel and pay more for you gas that you didn't need.

No, most of the time, only higher powered engines require premium fuel to work most effectively.

You can, however, use 93 octane, if you want a better MPG or better performance.
