Do train prices on nationalrail.co.uk change during the day?

I heard somewhere that if you're booking flights lower priced fares are often available first thing in the morning.

Does anyone know if that's true of booking train tickets online too?

  1. the prices differ at peak and off peak times. also in how advance you are booking a journey, as the advance tickets from the train operating companies are subject to avaliabity.

  2. Each type of ticket has a fixed price, BUT, there are many different types of ticket.

On-peak tickets are far more expensive than off-peak tickets. First class tickets are more expensive than third class tickets. Pre-booked tickets are cheaper than tickets bought on the platform or train.

  3. With train tickets they do tend to change as the closer to your journey you book them the more expensive they are. Hope this helps

  4. Yes. Tickets are more expensive in peak times. So it would be cheaper to travel at 2pm than it would be to travel at 5pm for example.

Also, if you book your tickets in advance, it will be much cheaper.

  5. Trains cheaper fares normally after 9.30 but you must book online to get real cheap fares and learn your way around the web pages before you ever book a ticket..Quite interesting doing a few trial bookings just log off before you give your credit card details just as suggestion Have M-F dates in mind or written down and the times you might travel

Journies  Southampton -Warwick    London- Trimley St Mary

Coventry- Darlington   Redcar-Blackpool now go to your search  type in rail fares  first page list left of page click the one   NATIONAL RAIL ENQUIRIES TRAIN TIMES AND FARES the next  page has a menu like a brouser make sure it on train times and fares if not click on it another page pops up which has on the right side  A quick journey planner

start filling it  and as the pages fall before you make sure you read the full length on pages   you will start off seeing train times  do nothing till you see fares a little black box right of a page click it  they will in the main be singles (Cheapest way to purchase) then you see the timetable with fares again, with a wireless button below  you click the wireless button on the time/fare you want..you are then taken to the purchase pages  read them    OK its a mine field but after the trials Ive suggested its qute quick and saves loads and loads of money  one trip I do at the booking office over a hundred pounds return on line £6.50 single fare

in five hour time you could go out on the street  purchasing tickets for everyone else in sight you will quite enjoy it  so long as your server and MSN dont play up  lol

  6. No, not as such. A certain number of seats will be available on each train for each type of ticket which is sold (on peak-hour business trains there may be only a few, or no, tickets of the cheapest types). Once the cheapest tickets are sold, they're gone, and you'll have to pay more money for the next cheapest type of ticket.

I have never heard of cheaper tickets becoming available nearer the time of the journey.

  7. Train tickets change prices the earlier you go to purchase them if they are availiable and depending on Day and Time you wish to travel, this applies to distance as well, the further your journey the cheaper the overall price (mileage) becomes, however some tickets only change between Peak and Off Peak fares (Standard and Cheap Day / Saver) best thing to do is to go to your local station and ask the clerk there about the best deals and savings you could make as the ticket system is a mine feild of conditions and times
