do train whistles wake up deer that are sleeping in the woods? i mean you can hear the whistles from a long way a way i'm sure whatever woods they are sleeping in they can hear them without the added insulation of walls and buildings that we humans have.Or do you think that they have become accustomed to it over a century and a half of hearing it and they sleep through them at all hours of the night? or do you think it's like an alarm clock and the little fawns are like "no maw i don't wanna get up yet"?

  1. I am not a hunter.

I know from driving that deer tend to move at dusk to dawn. They probably do not move much at night. As for the noise, I would say that, over a period of time, they develop a tolerance for it.

    They may not like it.

They learn, as we have, to live with the noisy world we live in.

    I hope this helps.

  2. Do deer sleep?  I mean they have to be wary of predators every moment, especially at night, so how can they sleep?  Maybe half their brain sleeps at a time like dolphins.  In that case they'd hear it, know that there's no danger, and keep the other half of their brain asleep.

  3. I would say they become accustomed to the sounds in their area from birth. I know from observation that deer often ignore trucks and cars traveling down a nearby highway. Deer and other animals often ignore farm equipment. Deer even ignore gun shots in the distance. Think about it. If a deer flinched and ran to hide at every sound in the distance they would never get any peace.

Deer feed at any time of the day or night but are more active in the night time if many people are around and a threat. Very dark nights make them feed more at dusk and dawn but moonlight is all the light they need.

The very little fawns are left alone or with their twin to sleep while mom is away feeding.
