although, like the excessively business minded corporations that ruined the saving/loan industry and the 'energy' industry and big pharma;  that solid middle classlifestyle is in jeopardy

Trains led to the introduction of Standardised Time. Before, time was different in every town/village. This had to change so that timetables could be accurate.
