  1. yes. well did last year. phone them and ask.

  2. hi you better ask before you make any plans, i remeber last year the trains were not running so i had to pay £15 for cab to get to work , double rates on boxing day.

  3. Generally.. No. Railway shuts down for 2 days. Tends to be no 'intercity' services or longer distance 'regional' services. Local trains may run in London and surrounds. As always, check before you travel. Contact National Rail 08457484950 or www.nationalrail.co.uk.

  4. No, they run on tracks.

    Boom, tissshhh.

  5. Limited service in most areas. Make enquiries with operator.

  6. the Algoma central does/cnn

  7. Yes

  8. let train personnel have an xmas

they work hard all year they deserve a couple of days off

  9. Limited services on most lines and limited stops on those trains that do run. After all we also like to have Xmas off to spend with our families!!!

  10. Check could be a Sunday service provided!!

  11. I have done some checking. And the jurneys that I have Looked into that are NOT Running are:

    Manchester - London,

    Leeds - London

    York - London

    Glasgow - London

    Edinburgh - London

    Birmingham Airport - Birmingham

    Manchester Airport - Manchester

    Luton Airport - London

    Services that ARE Running are:

Heathrow - London (Using London Underground Only)

    Gatwick - London

Standstead - London Liverpool Street (Coach Service Only)

The reason that 99% of the railway is closed is because  hardly anyone travels on Boxing Day & the railway use the time to get essencial maintenance work done where it will not affect as many people & they can get to parts of the railway that are normally not accessable when trains are running.

I hope that my answer helps.

  12. In the UK, yes they do.

  13. They do, but they have a special limited service. Go to www.thetrainline.co.uk and you can look up the times

  14. There are no services on Boxing Day in the UK, except for possibly on Eurostar and Gatwick and Heathrow links

  15. A limited service will operate on SOME routes, possibly with coaches instead of trains, as the two day shutdown tends to be used for quite a lot of Engineering Work, as well as for railway staff to have a rest!

First Great Western will be operating an hourly COACH service between Reading and Heathrow Airport, extended to Gatwick Airport every 2 hours; First Scotrail will operate to a Saturday timetable on the Glasgow suburban routes from around 8am, with NO service on other routes; Gatwick Express will operate a half hourly train service between 05:30 and 23:45; "one" Railway will operate a reduced Stansted Express service to/from Tottenham Hale (Liverpool Street station is closed for major Engineering Work in conjunction with the East London Line extension project); Southern will operate a half hourly service between Charing Cross and East Croydon via Sydenham between 08:00 and 22:00, and an hourly service between London Bridge and Brighton between 09:00 and 19:00; and Southeastern will operate an hourly service between Victoria and Orpington between 08:25 and 20:25.

  16. As far as Northern rail are concerned No service

  17. Trains run 24/7 and all year around. they need to make money and provide an important service.Freight or passenger, there is no difference.

  18. This year a Bank Holiday limited service will be running on boxing day.

Show on timetables as BHX in the top of the columns.

Find link below....has full current UK timetable

  19. you are lucky they run on weekdays!!

    depends on train company.

most of them are lazy and cant be arsed.

  20. Only in some areas, you need to tell us where you are and then we can give you a more specific answer.

Generally speaking in the UK only around 10% of the network is open for use, particularly links to Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton airports.
