  1. Tarantulas can and do bite on occasion.  They're bite is venomous (all spiders are venomous) but is not deadly, unless you have an allergic reaction without treatment.  It feels similar to a wasp sting, and leaves an itchy/stinging welt.

They should be cleaned immediately though, because they can get infected.

  2. Tarantulas

Tarantulas are also large hairy spiders. In fact, some people call any large hairy or fuzzy spider a tarantula. Tarantulas are very hairy with sharp bristles. The hairs are easily shed or can be rubbed off. Handling a tarantula can result in irritation to the skin. If hands are not washed after handling a tarantula and eyes are touched, the sharp hairs can cause eye irritation that may require a trip to the physician.

Tarantulas are sensitive to vibrations and hunt at night by touch. If cornered, the tarantula will make a purring sound and may rear up on its back legs. Even though tarantulas are scary looking to most people, most bites do not produce any significant poisoning symptoms. However, the bites can be quite painful because of the large size of the spider.

  3. Tarantulas have venom that is used to kill prey, but there are no tarantulas in the world that are considered dangerously poisonous to humans. When threatened, many kinds of tarantulas will use their hind legs to kick hairs from the upper surface of the abdomen. These hairs cause a burning sensation when they contact sensitive skin or mucuous membranes.

  4. they can bite if you upset them, and they do have venom, however it is usually too weak to kill a person. Supposedly the bite feels like a bee sting
