Do travel shows influence you?

Question

Has a travel show ever influenced you into travelling to a particular area featured on that show? Where and why?

This is for my Tourism assignment 'How media affects tourism?"

I saw a travel show about three years ago, and I fell in love with a place called the entrance (nsw Australia).

I have been planning ever since to visit, but still havent got there yet!!

ok first off to the woman above me ewww no one wants to know that!

And to answer the question, no they don't affect where I want to travel. I realize that they are pretty dishonest in the way they present the places and they don't accurately portray what is going to really happen when you visit a place. They set up all of those colorful locals that they just "bump into" yeah right they called months ahead to schedule those "impromptu" meetings.

Yeah I was watchinig the travel channel about people who go and dig up jewels and keep them for themselves.  I decided to go to that location and get some for myself.  Its very hard though after its been featured on the travel channel to get anything.  It can be months or years before you can acutally get another jewel because all teh good ones are usually taken

Sometimes they do. Not so much for the major tourist destinations, but there are times when they show a smaller town or a particular festival that I haven't heard of before and I'll make an effort to go see it. Here in Italy there's a show that features local festivals sometimes bigger events like Carnevale, but often very particular local events. As a specific example, I went to the truffle festival in San Miniato for the 1st time as a result of a show. I've also gone to Egeskov Castle in Denmark after seeing it on a show.

yeah, like The Great outdoors shows some really nice paces.. that are like woahhhh freakin sweet!! but then they show the prices and our tiny little hearts sink and we cry.

but yes the moral of the story is... they do a little.. well yeah they do, cause thats their purpose.
