I have a 50 gallon tank I was hoping to make into a spectacular terrarium. I want to place some Red Eyed Tree Frogs in it. Tell me everything you can about them please!

Can they be housed with any other typed of frogs. Like dart frogs?

Additional Details

Are they good for a beginner?

What kind of tank setup?

  1. we had some in 3 grade as a class pet but we had to wash are hands every time we picked it up or set it down.

  2. Nooooooooooo! 15% of tree frogs are poisonous to the touch if you are getting it from a pet store they probably sucked the poison out of it but, they are a lot to handle sometimes.I wouldn't get one, if I were you,I would start with a toad their not as jumpy.

  3. I wouldn't think so, tree frogs are meant to go from tree to tree. I personally think a small turtle is good for a beginner.

  4. no they are not good for a beginner, they require a LOT of maitenance and time to keep them happy and healthy.

for a beginner i would suggest an Australian green tree frog (also called a whites tree frog), they are brightly colored, dont require near as much maitenance as the red eyes, and are very friendly.

  5. Red eyed tree frogs are delicate and should not be handled. I would say a white's tree frog. They have a thick waxy skin that will although you to handle them. And don't ever mix any reptile.

  6. ok red eye tree frogs (retf) require alot of hight (like 2 foot) so a normal long aquarium wont work. couple this with the fact there very fragile and fall ill easy if not kept in perfect condition they dont make good first frogs (neither do darts)

as for the tank like i said lots of height and alot of foliage for them to hide in

here's some caresheets but i really wouldn't recommend getting them

to Brian P your talking out of your backside A: most frogs have skin toxins not poisons there's a difference B: you cant "suck" the toxins out C: in many cases the toxins need to be ingested or get into the blood via eyes etc D: many aren't harmful to humans (maybe give u a bellyache if u get alot of it in your system)

to Quetza C Please tell your grade teacher that AMPHIBIANS MUST ONLY BE HANDLED WHEN ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY it stresses them out because the absorb the chemicals and salts from your skin through there skin washing your hands only makes it ok for 3-5 mins. and your teacher is making your frog more open to disease

  7. not good for a beginner at all, neither are dart frogs, and different species of frogs can not be housed together (frogs sometimes eat other frogs, and if one is toxic, well you can figure it out). retf and dart need special temps and humidity, if something is off balanced they will stress out and die.

  8. i would agree with The Late J

  9. i dont think so you will have to take care of them a lot like from cat and snake
