Do turtles really breath through their butt??!?

  1. Where in the world did you get that?  They breath the same wall all other reptiles do, through their noses and mouths.


  2. Check the turtle's head.  You'll find two nostrils which the turtle uses to breathe.

  5. yes, physically when they are on land they breathe through their mouths. But when they are under water they breath through their butts because they dont have any gills.

  6. Not exactly. The softshell turtles can extract dissolved oxygen from the water in their cloacas. Snappers may be abvle to do the same thing but through the pharynx. It's not breathing any more than a fish using its gills is breathing.

  7. never heard that one.  know that turtles have nostrils and the snapping turtles neck can stretch out so they can breathe.

  9. yes i had a pet turtle i always found that strnage.. i think there one of few animals that can breath out of their butts
