Do two identical clothing items in a retail store have an identical bar code number on the tags?

  1. probably the same-clothing may be a little different than other items due to the color difference. Manufacturers choose how they want to assign UPCs to their products. (so a 6 oz can of beans always has the same code, but blue pants might be different than black pants) If you want to learn more about UPCs (bar codes) go to www.uc-council.org. They are the governing body for the universal assignment of codes.

  3. I believe the bar code identifies item categories and thence their price, rather than number individual items. So two identical clothing items should have an identical tag number because they are in the same category/type, and should also be priced the same.
