  1. PETA has an agenda. Whether or not you approve of their agenda is beside the point; they will latch onto any possible wisp, in order to drive that agenda.

In this specific case, they're in serious danger of committing actionable slander and libel, in that they're making unsupported, damaging accusations about Gabriel Saez, a proven professional. PETA has not one scrap of evidence in their accusations, but that has not prevented them from weighing-in as completely ignorant commentators. Whether you support PETA or not, that's a *dumb* thing to do.

  2. Some good informed commentary above me.

  3. yes they are, but they have to blame two different jockey's because the same jockey didnt ride both barbaro and eight belles. PETA's just really trying to get people to stop watching horse racing, so what they're saying isnt all true. especially all about whipping the horses mercifully, but yea your right that they dont have proof so they'd loose the case regardless.

PS: for you people that dont know, the jockey of Eight Belles was Gabriel Saez and the jockey of Barbaro was Edger Prado

  4. I did not know that Edgar Prado was being blamed for Barbaro's death- that's a new one on me, because there is NO WAY he's at fault. Barbaro died from a DISEASE which has killed numerous horses worldwide, from all walks of life, and for which there is no cure and very few effective treatments. Eight Belles, on the other hand, was euthanized after breaking both front legs following the Derby. Her jockey is not to blame for what happened- he rode the race he was told to ride, and did what he'd been told to do by the filly's trainer. This is just a case of PETA's looking for a scapegoat and trying to blame someone for what happened, instead of looking at the REAL CAUSES of Saturday's tragedy, which were many. Eight Belles should never have been in that race at all- she was too young and immature physically- and what was worse is that she was overgrown and inbred, and had a superfine bone structure which was inherently weak and prone to breakage under stress. She was also running on a strange and new surface- all her prior races had been on Polytrack, whereas Churchill Downs is a DIRT track and always has been, and against colts for the first time in her life. Add in the pressure to win which all Derby horses are put under, and guess what- you have the equivalent of a ticking time bomb which is waiting to explode.  Well, it detonated all right- and it cost the filly her life. Her jockey is not to blame for any of that, however. PETA has no proof of its allegations- and they aren't likely to gain any from anyone.

  5. Yes... I know they are trying to to get racing officials to suspend the Jockey of Eight Belles because he hit her left handed with the whip coming down the stretch. They state he did this in spite of there being no chance for her to improve past the winner Big Brown... Eight Belles had a history of lugging in toward the rail. If he didn't hit her left handed, she could of collided into the rail coming home.

PETA is not an authority on racing they often try to explain their stance as if they were experts on the matter...

Both Jockeys of Barbaro and Eight Belles tried to pull up and jump off once they felt something was wrong... Jockeys don't  want to get rolled under a thousand pound animal?

  6. I really don't know if Peta is blaming the Jockey but I don't think they should. As you can tell the horse on it own sped up. It was not the jockeys fault. Also maybe Eight Belles was to young.

Rest in Peace Eight Belles I love you Eight Belles

  7. It's just sick that people here want Eight Belles to suffer for life and give up hope like the owners of Barbaro did.  Horses cannot recover from leg injuries like humans do, and horse racing has been around since before all of the people here were born, so they cannot be called "experts" on animal cruelty.

The so-called "animal lovers" are here just to light fires and cause trouble like PETA does when they throw animal blood and red paint at people that wear fur and leather clothing.

It's just how things are when horses are put down.  There are thousands of horses put down every day all over the world by farmers and owners when their legs break or suffer irrepairable damage to their legs.  People just don't see it happen and think they do, especially the delusional leftist liberal extremists living in urban areas, that pretend to be animal lovers.

  8. Yes, I believe it. PETA is like other leaders in our country. They see an opportuinity and run with it. This is exposure for them. I don't remember hearing anything from PETA when they euthenised Barbaro. I am sad about the horse and everyone involved.
