Do u believe in wearing helmets or not wearing helmets while ridding a bike explain y?

I suppose they have their place, especially for children, but I grew up never having to wear a helmet. I don't like to wear hats that much, but would probably regret it if i fell on a bike and had a major head injury.

I know that it's safer to wear helmets.

However, I feel stupid wearing a helmet.  I have known how to ride a bike for years.  If something really bad happens to me while riding my bike, I seriously doubt a helmet will matter.  My head may still be in one piece, but what about the rest of my body?

i do believe in them, they save your head. Although i actually only wear one if i am doing something like jumping. i just like the feeling of being safe, ya know, the extra confidence goes a long way.

I wear a helmate because a lot of motorists around here aren't the nicest people around.  They see me not paying 4 bucks a gas and are instantly mad at me.  Let's face it.  Motorists are a h**l lot bigger than I am.  they could knock me down with no trouble at all!  Helmets are for the win in a town of angry people

well i don't , even tho its safer to use one !

first of all people my age make fun of one of another if we wear them...its as if  we still have training wheels on !

Also people on the roads see that your all geared up and immediately think that your a very "skilled" biker or extremly good... so they don't think they have to take that much precaution on you ..because if anything ere to happen youll be fine if there were an accident and also if the car swivels or does some wacky thing you can just quickly turn or have cat like reflexes or sumthing !

Personally:  I say rider choice.  But under 18 it should be mandatory.

There have been countless "forum" discussions on this topic where you can get a good flavor and references to stats and whatnot.

I certainly don't represent the entire bike community, but I do wear a helmet... begrudgingly... and it's not because it is a law... it isn't.

BUT my family members insist on it.  It's crazy (knock on wood) but I've never, ever, ever been in a bike accident involving my head... it's always my limbs, body... or DOH! my bike that takes the beating.

And I ride a lot... every day.  It's how I commute.

I left the helmet home one day, just snuck out of the garage before my wife caught on... and SOMEONE YELLED AT ME on the way to work!!!  Can you believe it!!??!

"Hey!  Get a helmet!"

Now it's weird... I'm almost afraid to NOT wear it even though I desperately miss the "freedom"... when actually I never really thought much about it until I got the darn thing for Christmas last year and was pretty much told to wear it or else.

Geez - My wife, my parents, in-laws were all there... it was like an AA intervention!

I am typing this response today because I wore a helmet 24 years ago! if people say helmets aren't cool today, they should have been around when the "spaceballs" look was the only option. short story long, my uncool helmet saved my noggin when I hit the road at 40+ mph! I still have the scars. I also take rides of silence for cyclists who have lost their lives on the road. a best friend from jr high was killed in a similar accident from mine 2 years later. the difference was he wasnt wearing a helmet. my kids don't get their bikes out of the shed unless they have a helmet on!

i believe in helmets 100%. What happens if a car hits you and you don't have a helmet. your brains get splattered all over the road and you can possibly die. Helmets are designed to slow the impact of the head down by a tenth of a second and scientist say theat that tenth of a second can mean life or death. My friends brother was recently hit by a car and wasn't wearing a helmet. his face was smashed in, and the doctos say if he had a helmet he wouldn't of had severe head trama. the doctors where surprised he was even alive. i say wear a helmet unless you wan to take a chance and mabey even die. you have one life protect it.
