  1. The Mayan calendar cannot really be coordinated with our Gregorian calendar, so the beginning and end of each cycle on it is guesswork. It is absurd to make a prediction with such a precise date as 12/21/12 with no real basis.

  2. This is a myth based on the irresponsible, (and repeated) airing of a ridiculous pseudo-documentary on the History Channel. That network, and the Discovery Channel and Fox, will air anything they feel will get a bigger audience. Sometimes, their shows are good and worth watching. Other times, they are foolish, sensationalist, tabloid-style hype. It is often difficult to tell which is which, unless you know about a subject. I know about the history of doomsday predictions, pseudoscience, and astronomy.

The Mayan calendar does not predict the end of the world. They did keep an accurate calendar, but contrary to popular opinion, never predicted any world event accurately. They couldn't predict their own demise; why should they be able to predict ours?

The alignment with the galactic center is not going to happen. It comes fairly close to happening EVERY year on Dec 21, and will be exactly the same as it always is, in 2012. Even if some perfect alignment did occur, there is nothing about it that could affect the earth. It's like saying, "When these three parking spaces are occupied by three red cars, the world will come to an end."

Doomsday prophets have always been around and they are always wrong. Every 5 to 10 years, some prediction catches the public's attention and scares a lot of kids...usually thanks to irresponsible media decisions. Dozens of different doomsday scenarios have been piggy-backed on to this date since the show aired. Go to this site to see how many predicted apocalypses we have already missed.

All that Nibiru stuff is bunk, too. No such planet has ever been discovered. The claim that it was discovered some 25 years ago is not true.

  3. so when you wrote this,.... you totally missed the other questions just like it that are thrown up in front of your face?

  4. The Big 2012 Hoax Off is a contest of lies, with the end-of-the-world as a central theme.

There is a link with the Meso-American Long Count calendar (not the common Mayan calendar that was used by Mayans for their day-to-day life).

The Long Count calendar comes to the end of a long count, and begins a new one.  At first, astrologers (not astronomers) predicted that this would bring a "new age", a time of change, an opportunity to wipe away all our problems and have a fresh start at things.

This attitude is rather common (and just as false) when we have our own "new ages."  In our western civilization, our new ages have to do with the position of the March equinox moving into a new constellation.  Our ages last, on average, around 2100 years.

As the group "5th dimension" used to sing a few generations ago:  "This is the Dawning of the Age of Aquarius."  This is because the position of the March equinox is moving into the constellation Aquarius.

For the Mayans, the ages lasted over 5000 years and, if they were still around, they'd prepare festivities for the new one.

However, the hoaxers got into the act and turned it into a big farce.  They don't care how impossible their predictions are, they just know that some people will believe them.  And you should see the books that they try to sell on the topic.  Lots of money to be made, for sure.

The Long Count calendar was used by astronomers (including Mayan astronomers).  It is simply a day-count calendar -- just like our Julian Day calendar, also used by astronomers -- except that it uses a mix of base-18 and base-20 numbers (we use base-10 numbers).

On December 21, 2012, it reaches a "round figure" in their numbering scheme (a bit like December 31, 1999 when our own calendar "ran out of numbers" and all our computers exploded, ending our world... remember?)

Mayan astronomers described astronomical events which are to take place after the year we call 2012.  They give the dates using the Long Count calendar.  Obviously, they expected neither the world nor their calendar to end.

This question is surely now only being asked by trolls, it is too difficult to believe that so many people are this easily fooled AND don't read up about it elsewhere, anywhere in fact, first.

There is no evidence for the hypothetical planet 'Nibiru', the hypothetical twin dwarf star of our sun 'Nemesis'. the galactic alignment, or any other event that has been proposed to end life on the high coincidentally numerically pleasing based on an arbitrarilly chosen date system - american format - 12/21/12.

2012 wil be another ordinary year, except for the olympics, the European football championships(which will hopefully see a British team in it this time) and some minor lunar/solar eclipses.

  6. Simply put: No.

Reason: The end of the world has been predicted so many times it's ridiculous.

Why this prediction stands out: The history channel does a good job at making you scared with dramatic coincidences and claims that seem credible. Once people start watching it, it creates a domino effect.

Why they seem credible: Because they mention predictions by "accredited" sources that have been made out of thousands of predictions that happened to be coincidental.

Mayan Calender: It is the end of a 5,125 year cycle. I'm sure if the mayans were around, they'd extend the calender, but unfortuanately, most, if not all, are not here to do that.

    Conclusion:

    It's all a ploy.

It's all for ratings & money.

  7. Do not worry.  Do not be scared.  I assure you that the world will not end on 2012 December 21 but it will end one day.  Nostradamus’ prediction of when the earth will end is far into the future, past about 3700.  He still has many prophecies that are not fulfilled yet.  Remember that if there is a beginning, there is an end.

The Mayan’s Mesoamerican Long Count calendar forms the basis for a New Age belief, first forecast by Jose Arguelles, that a cataclysm will take place on or about 2012 December 21 (Wikipedia).  It will be the end of a Mayan calendar cycle to start a new cycle.

In the book of Revelation, it tells us about a period of a thousand years of peace. Has this occurred already since the time of Jesus? Not yet. That will still come. Those that give predictions of the world’s end, such as 2012 and numerous times during the past, are pseudo-preachers. Have they talked to God directly? If so, give proofs.

But there is something that is certain—and that is our physical death. This is what we should prepare for. It may come when least expected. We do not know the day and the hour. It will come like a thief in the night. So we just have to be prepared all the time. Search for the true God and when we find Him, follow His commandments and remain in Him until our last dying breath.

This is all that we have to do. It is faith in the true God that we can take with us when we depart from this world. If we denied Him, He will deny us also before the Father in Heaven and send us to h**l. This is very scary – to live in h**l forever.  If we knew Him and loved Him and followed His commandments, then He may reward us to live with Him eternally in His kingdom in Heaven. This is the survival kit that we should have.

What is also certain to happen very soon (in about 2012 or earlier) is World War III and this is a nuclear war.  This “calamitous war” (as Nostradamus called it) will start from the Philippines, at Spratly Islands in particular.  The Spratly Islands lie on the southeast part of the South China Sea mostly near the coast of the Philippines.  The Holy Spirit told us that the Philippines is the wick of a gas lamp.  Once the wick is lit, it will be on and aglow.  He told us about this prophecy about two decades ago.  He said that the troubles in the Philippines will spread to the whole world until mankind is almost annihilated and a few will remain.  Spratly Islands is being claimed wholly by China, Taiwan and Vietnam; and partly by Malaysia, Brunei and the Philippines,  It is considered a tinderbox, a flash point.  It is very rich in oil and gas resources, more than the reserve of Kuwait.  The high price of oil may trigger the grabbing of these islands and start the war.

Four independent prophecies point to the certainty that this will happen.  These are Nostradamus’ prophecies to happen around this time (quatrains 6:24 and 2:62) , the 56th Chinese prophecy of Tuey Bei Tu (the past 55 prophecies have already been fulfilled) found at http://www.godlikeproductions.com/forum1... Revelation 9:18 of the Holy Bible, and those that the Holy Spirit revealed to us.  If you are interested in the details about these prophecies, please send me your request via email.

Isaiah 35:4 (KJV) states: “Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompense; he will come and save you.”

  9. Asked and answered a gazillion times!  The Mayan calendar doesn't "end" on 12/21/2012.  It is the end of a 5,125.34 year cycle.  And it's not just Mayans:  other Native American tribes, the Bible Code, the I Ching, etc. all predict massive changes.

Watch the History Channel -- they have done a number of programs on this that are very interesting.

  10. Congratulations, you are the thousandth user to ask this question!  You win a new brain.

  12. No. The Mayans just ran out of stone to write it on or couldn't be bothered doing the calculations past 2012.
