  1. no its not actually necessary to be tall for playing volley ball...being tall is just a plus point in it...if you are nottall butyour service and block is good you can play preety well even thanthe people taller than you..once when i went for a match our opposite team was just twice of our height so my team players just loosed hope..then i and our coach cheered them up...than atlast we wont the match..they were in the team just because they were tall but they dint play good..so just cheer up..dont take tension..be ready to play and win..good luck..

  2. no no... im only like 5'2 and im am amazing hitter but i can jump..... u will just play back row..... if u are really short or sometimes setter....  good luck!! =]

  3. of course you dont have to be tall. You can be any size. Small people move quicker. But taller people can spike the ball better. There are no limits of tallness. good luck

  4. Well when I played at school for gym classes I was really bad but when it came time for me to serve I was unstopable. As long as you can serve you will be fine.

  5. you DO NOT have to be tall to play volleyball. my teammate is about 4'10" she is a great player. and the seventh grade team everyone but maybe 4 people ( 11 people total on the team) are short. dont worry about height. just worry about playing.

  6. no...i was on the volleyball team in HS and I am only 5'5''

  7. Nope. I played volleyball with a girl who wasn't  a migit or a dwarf, but she had some sort of growing problem and was only like 4'4 or something.

  8. No not at all do you have to be tall to play volleyball.  I play on a team and i am about 5 foot 2.5 inches but, i am still growing and i am not even the shortest person on the team.  So go for it someone who is shorter than u will probably tryout.  Good Luck.

  9. of course not! you just need to be aggressive and strong. have a good attitude, go for the ball, be a good sport, and you are all set...jumping high also matters

but height does not matter at all because i'm 5'5'' and a girl who was one whole foot shorter than me made the team while i did not...so it depends on talent and attitude, not height

  10. not realy i'm the shortest pirson on my team but i'm also the best

  11. it's better if you're tall, but not required.

im a freshman this year and im not even 4'11"

i play libero and sometimes outside hitter

the only thing really short people can't do is block

  12. absolutely not, being tall has it's advantages but no you do not have to be tall to be a great volleyball player.

  13. Although it is a advantage.  If you are quick and agile and have a good approach and are fundamentally sound in the sport.  You can be just as good or better

  14. no, you only need to be tall if you preferably want to be Middle other then that not really. If you look at most liberos they are not all that tall and setters don't have to be tall so all together you don't need to be tall

  15. no

i play and im only 5' 4'' at the most! lol

  16. no im already in a team u dont have to be tall long as u hit the ball its fine my volley ball game is today at 6 wish me luck

  17. Absolutly not..

I have a girl on my volleyball team..

    She is 4"9'

You dont have to be tall

  18. You can never teach someone to be tall.  You can teach someone to play tall.  If you are tall, you will have an advantage.  If the choice is between two players for the last cut and the abilities are the same, the coach will take the taller player.

  19. no. just make sure that you always get under that ball, make good passes, and get you're serves/hits over.

  20. NO. I have a friend on Varsity that plays Libero and she's only 5'2". I played volleyball for a few years as Libero and I'm only about 5'6".

  21. No, you don't have to be tall. You have better chances but, if your good, your good.

  22. no, you dont need to be tall. but you need some really strong legs. that's where you get all your power from.

  23. omg no!!! on the varsety team at my school, this girl, she is about 5 feet, really short! but she is the best labero i have ever seen in my entire life!

  24. No, you could play libero or set.

  25. no u dont. i used to play volleyball for our county team and i wasnt the tallest. u have an advantage if ur tall but its not such a big deal. if u can set, spike, serve, and pass then ur good.

  26. no i play highschool volleyball and im a senior. im 5'3! and our team is undefeated!

  27. NO.

there are tiny girls that play vball.

you can be a libero! or just play backrow

unless you are a super good jumper

cuz ive known like 5' girls who were 14 who could jump and get there hand all the way above the net

    so it just depends.

  28. No you don't need to be tall.

It helps though, this girl at my school is TERRIBLE at Volleyball, Basketball every sport, I mean I'm tall (5'9) but if she was my height she wouldn't make anything.

She makes EVERY team she tries out for, and the only reason for that is because she's 6'4.

GOOD LUCK FOR THE TEAM. :)

Usually tall people go in the front, (blocking and spiking)

While the shorter people go in the back.

  29. not at all!

i am very short, and so is my friend, and we are the 2 best players on our team!

it is just a little harder to spike it, cuz if you are short, you cant jump higher than the net as easy, but i am our best spiker!

you just need to PRACTICE! :]

  30. no not at all.. my frien is like 4'8'' and she starts.. she is the setter.. the only position you have to be especially tall for is middle hitter.. and sorta tall for outside hitter. otherwise no need to be tall.. backrow hitters arent tall...neither are setters that's what my friend is

  31. No, u do not have to be tall to play.

I was coaching a college girl's team and we had some tall and great hitters, but our defense was not good enough so that we got beaten in the first game against a team that did not have a single player that was taller than 5ft.

Having said that, taller is better, as a coach I can teach anything including defense, but no coach can teach a player regarding how to grow taller.
