  1. it is not important to pay another tip in the check is gratuity that's just in case someone doesn't give a tip but if your service is good then it is always a nice gesture to give another tip

  2. Oh heck no.  If tip is included, the only time I would say it's appropriate to give extra is if you got REALLY good service.

  3. Unless the menu says otherwise, that is probably suggested gratuity.  Many restaurants will add gratuity for parties of five or more, and that should be noted on menu as well.  I always tip at least 15% if service is not good (note why service is lacking), because the server may have an off day or the problem is in the kitchen and the server is being blamed.  Gratuity is 20-25% for extraordinary service.

Remember that servers usually make less than half the current minimum wage per hour.

  4. If you have a large party, like 8 or more, tips will be added to the check automatically.  If the restaurant notified you of that on a sign or verbally, you have to pay it.  That example you showed is ridiculous though.  Who pays 30% tips.  Wow.

  5. that is c**p! i hate tipping, i tip on the quality of service, so they better treat me like a queen to get my extra money.

  6. No, don't pay any more than the above total.  It's ridiculous when restaurants automatically include gratuity--it definitely does not help make the service better.

  7. Well, I don't know if your tip was already included by the waitress, but, if it was it shouldn't have been. When your waiter brings you the check and you're paying with a credit card, you have the option of how much tip you want to give. They cannot decide for you. The slip has the total and you get to write in the amount of the tip, yourself. Once you write in the tip, you total it up and there's the amount that you pay. After that you don't have to leave the waiter an extra tip. And if you are not sure whether or not the waiter will receive the correct tip that you put on your credit card slip, then just give your waiter their tip in cash, if you have it on you.

  8. I do not believe legally they can automatically charge you a tip UNLESS it is posted on their menu, or somewhere very visible. (Hence why most menus say partys of 8 or more include tip)

Me personally.. I would NOT have paid that tip I would have asked for a manager and fought it. And.. even then I DEFINITELY would NOT tip more if they automatically put it on the bill.. I don't do it when its parties of 8 or more either.. they s***w themselves by automatically putting in a tip because I guarantee they would get a lot more for my big table if they earned it versus just having it on the bill.
