Do u have to put premium gas in a 1.8t?

im looking at cars to buy and i was wondering if i would have to put premium gas in a

2003 volkswagen gti 1.8t

2001 audi a4 1.8t

or is regular cheap gas fine im a new young driver and gas prices rising im alittle bit worried

if it is turbo then you should put premium, if not then no...

even if it is turbo, if regular doesn't detonate then you could run regular....

if its stock turbo, i would look at the owners manual and see what it recommends, you could probably get away with mid grade
