Do u know about LPG cars?

I'm thinking of buying a second hand LPG car. Are they reliable? Expensive to maintain? Different MOT requirements?

Any other issues I should consider please?

They are used in Hong Kong taxis but they are not promoted here which makes me wonder why.

Thanks

Mike

  1. yes i do

  2. LPG is as reliable as petrol however not many places sell LPG.

also LPG cannot be taken into many long tunnels (as its considered and explosion hazard) and many ferries too.

on the M25 Dartford tunnel legally you have to queue up with the petrol tankers to go over and on the Eurotunnel they are totally banned. only certain ferries will take them as well.

they have Same MOT requirements its just LPG is cheaper than petrol..

  3. My hybrid LPG petrol car is very reliable, it's not been MOT'ed so I couldn't tell you (it's not quite three) but its serviced once a year and that seems to only take a day and is quite quick. I have no problem with it, a few minor niggles like for the first five minutes after starting it hates second gear and doesn't appreciate hard acceleration. Also they can cut out every so occasionally, the mechanic told me this was unfortunately common but infrequent and is caused by the refuelling rig rather than the car, but they are becoming easier and more sophisticated.

The best bit though is the day you go to pay for fuel at the station and you have the same petrol car owner is behind you, you pay twenty quid and fill the tank he pays fifty. It feels like you have a naughty secret.
