  1. kushtoe's reply is worth repeating. "Yes all salvia are sage !"

Just because there is a legal drug hitting mainstream media that belongs in the genus salvia does not mean that all other plants in this genus stop existing.

I guess some people are proving that making assumptions gains you points even if you're wrong.

  2. Are you trying to get the Salvia ID'd from your previous question?

If so, you are looking for something like one of these cultivars:

Salvia nemorosa 'Ostfriesland'  (balkan clary, meadow sage, hybrid sage)

    http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/im...

Salvia × sylvestris 'Blauhügel'  (syn. 'Blue Hills') (wood sage, meadow sage, hybrid sage)

    http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/im...

Salvia × sylvestris 'Mainacht'  (syn. 'May Night') (wood sage, meadow sage, hybrid sage)

    http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/im...

Salvia nemorosa and Salvia x sylvestris are very similar and have been somewhat mixed in the plant world. The picture of the plant that the other person gave you, is a type of one of those. Since they didn't give the name, I'm just guessing as to which one it could be.

It's always best to use the botanical name when you know it to avoid confusion. There are literally hundreds of Salvias and just by using the name "sage" you may not get the right plant. Plus A LOT of times more than one plant shares the same common name adding to the confusion. Hope this helps you out. Good luck. :)

  3. Salvia IS salvia.  That is the common name.

    Scientific classification

    Kingdom: Plantae

    Division: Magnoliophyta

    Class: Magnoliopsida

    Order: Lamiales

    Family: Lamiaceae

    Genus: Salvia

    Species: divinorum

    Binomial name

    Salvia divinorum

    Hope this helps.  Not sage.

  4. Isn't Salvia just a genus of plants, which wouldn't have a 'common name' but it means "Sage"

  5. Yes all salvia are sage !
