as perhaps anywhere in the world it really depends on what kind of pricetag you are looking for. there are some really  pricey good hotels and there are some really good more affordable ones.

I have no idea where mialn is, but if you mean Milan, then there is LOADS to do around here, yes. Milan itself is not cheap, but if you go to somewhere like Como, or Pavia, or Burgamo, you will find that you can get to the sea, to the mountains, to the lakes and to Milan itself, on Public transport (which is VERY cheap).
