No.

A lot of eBay sellers will accept checks or money order.  Some accept PayPal only.

PayPal is a very secure way to pay for items online.  You can register with them for free, and enter credit card or checking information.  They will then transfer money to your seller (or a seller could transfer money to you) without the other party ever getting your sensitive information.

I have used eBay and PayPal for years, with no problems whatsoever.

If you are only going to buy then you dont even need that!
