but the thing is, i DONT have one. will they still do it? why do they need my health card? why cant i just pay for it and get it over with?

  1. They were just expecting you to have a health card...but they will be more than happy to accept cash for sure.

  2. Yes they will do it. I got mine checked and had to get glasses, the price of the exam was regular price, but i had to pay for my glasses which were $99. But i know some insurances will cover the cost of your glasses. But they will do it. So I would call your health card and check to see if they cover eye care visits, and glasses. If so I would wait for the card to get there(you might have to call and make a later appt.), if not it's really not going to matter either way.

  3. It depends on which province you live in.  Some provinces provide a form for the eye doctor to get your number if you don't have your card with you.

Legally, in Canada, the doctor is not allowed to charge you personally for the eye exam if you have a health card;  the doctor is required to bill the province for your exam.

You have the option of paying yourself, just tell the doctor you don't have a health card.
