First off, what is your experience with salt-water aquariums?  'Cause if you've never dealt with salt-water aquariums (or have never had an aquarium, period), owning a stingray may be way too much work for you.

Salt water aquariums are expensive and require constant, daily maintenance, which can be expensive depending on what you're able to afford.  In addition, the family Dasyatidae -- stingrays -- have about 200 different species, so you should have an idea of exactly the species you want before continuing further.  The species you want would dictate the size of the tank you'd require.  There are freshwater rays, but they too would require a substantial tank.

My advice to you would be to contact an AZA (Association of Zoos and Aquariums) accredited zoo or aquarium for further  information, if you're really interested.  This is a big deal, and a huge commitment, so prepare yourself by researching this fully before you take a living creature into your home.
