Where I come from, I have a friend who is a supervisor at a bank and he is Deaf. Another one is a manager in the HR sector and he has been losing his hearing for years, but has adapted to using ASL and ASL interpreters and other technology. Another is a supervisor in an IT division and is Deaf. I have a two Deaf friends who ran for election. One of them served at Queen's Park for five years! Anther friend is a chiropractor and is Deaf. One Deaf friend owns a business. Three Deaf friends are lawyers! I have Deaf friends who are actors and one got a nomination for a Gemini best supporting actress. One of them, a mime performer, is always in hot demand. Another friend who is Deaf hosted a Deaf film festival in Toronto. I have Deaf friends who are teachers, and I know Deaf professors at York University and George Brown College. One Deaf man repairs the city's bus fleet. One Deaf friend tried out for the Olympics. Three friends wrote books on deafness, and I found all their books on the same shelf in a reference library collection. Oh yea, my jaw dropped. They didn't tell me!! I have two Deaf friends who work at a casino. I have a Deaf uncle who repairs Fords. I have a friend who works for Revenue Canada, collecting my %&#@ taxes! I even met the President of the World Federation of the Deaf and it took me a while to search for him at a festival in order to shake his hand. He is Deaf.

There are many Deaf people working in the finance sector, health profession, arts, teaching and many other jobs. They use ASL on the job too! The also use E-mail, Blackberrys, TTY and VRS. Written English is also a main tool to communicate.
