Ahhh, that old 'loveable rogue' tag again. He was a criminal, which is why he found himself to be in Australia in the first place. Breaking the law makes you a criminal, not loveable.

Depends on how you define a hero, and who's side you're on. I've always thought him to be a dangerous thug who was rather good at metal work.

He wasn't a hero.Stories vary about his criminality some saying he was targeted by authorities.He was no saint I would imagine.

He was actually born in Oz it was his Dad who was deported from Ireland to Tasmania.
