  1. There is no amount of money that can reimburse moms for what they do. I remember a song from years ago and tried to find a website that had the audio for these lyrics because it's a real tear jerker, but couldn't find one. This song expresses it all, though.

    NO CHARGE

Melba Montgomery (Tammy Wynette also did it).  Writer: HARLAN HOWARD

My little boy came into the kitchen this evenin'

    While I was fixin' supper

And he handed me a piece of paper he'd been writin' on

And after wipin' my hands on my apron

I read it - and this is what it said:

For mowin' the yard - five dollars

And for makin' my own bed this week - one dollar

And for goin' to the store - fifty cents

An' playin' with little brother, while you went shoppin' - twenty-five cents

Takin' out the trash - one dollar

Gettin' a good report card - five dollars

And for rakin' the yard - two dollars

    Total owed - fourteen seventy-five.

Well, I looked at 'im standin' there expectantly

And a thousand mem'ries flashed through my mind

So I picked up the pen, turnin' the paper over,

    This is what I wrote:

For nine months I carried you

Growin' inside me - NO CHARGE

For the nights I've sat up with you,

Doctored you, prayed for you - NO CHARGE

For the time and the tears.

And the cost through the years, there's NO CHARGE

When you add it all up.

The full cost of my love is NO CHARGE.

For the nights filled with dread

And the worries ahead - NO CHARGE

    For advice and the knowledge

And the cost of your college - NO CHARGE

For the toys, food and clothes and for wipin' your nose

    There's NO CHARGE, son

When you add it all up,

The full cost of my love, is - NO CHARGE.

    Well, when he finished readin'

He had great big old tears in his eyes

And he looked up at me and he said,

"Mama, I sure do love you."

    Then he took the pen,

    And in great big letters

    He wrote: "PAID IN FULL."

When you add it all up

The cost of real love is - NO CHARGE

  2. Do you think a mom should get paid for breastfeeding her infant???  NO  It's part of being a parent.

  3. $NO!$

  4. I do...though not in money.

I get paid in hugs and smiles daily.

I get paid in snuggling with my son during read alouds...he's going on 10 and will still curl up and snuggle with me.

I get paid in seeing my son thrive and achieve his goals, rather than spend his free time surgically attached to a video game console.

I get paid in seeing him realize the needs of others and do what he can to bless them.

I get paid in so many ways, and they're all more tangible to me than money :-)

Would I like the tax break?  Heck yeah...but what I have is more important.  Way more.  :-)

  5. Well you can give your kids a bill and tell them they don't have to start paying it back until they hit the workforce.

  6. I have to wonder who would do the paying. Would this require an increase in my taxes to pay myself for homeschooling? Then I'd have to pay more taxes on my homeschool salary. LOL.

Homeschooling something I choose to do for my children. No, I don't think anyone else should have to pay me for my personal choices. A tax break would be nice, but it would probably get the government more in my life so I don't even want that.

  7. No,  If they got paid then the government would have more rights about what they taught their children, and don't you think the government has their hands in too many things already?

We are starting to home school our own child this year.  I shouldn't need to be paid for what I am suppose to do.

  8. nope

  9. wow. When they figure out how to pay moms who home school, I hope they figure out how to pay moms! And no. Moms do what they do because they are mom, and that includes the choice to homeschool.

  10. No, but it sure would be nice.  LOL!!

This is part of our job as a parent and we just take it a step further by choosing to give our children the best possible education at home versus sending them to school where they learn what they need to for a test and then forget what they have learned after the test is over and done with.

My opinion on how the school system works, but it still would be nice to have the extra money, but that is not an option for me.

  11. No, the only agency that might be able to do this would be the government, and they shouldn't have too.  I have chosen to educate my children at home, and it is up to me to figure out the finances of it.

I pay property taxes every year, and that money goes into the Public School system.  At one time I believed that I should get at least some of that back since I don't use the schools.  Then I realized that people without children pay the same taxes and they don't use the schools either.  Besides, if I accepted government money I'd have to bow to government control, and I don't want to do that.  Besides, I do have the option to use the school system if I choose, and that is what my taxes are paying for; the option.

The one thing I do think is that all districts should be like the one I live in:  My district welcomes homeschoolers to take part in individual classes at the school while maintaining their homeschooling status.  I have heard others say that their districts don't allow this.  To me, since we do pay our property taxes like everyone else, (renters too, since the taxes raise the price they pay for rent), we should be able to use as much or as little of the system as we desire.  I am very thankful my district allows this, it is good to know I can send my child for just a music class, or just a science class.  I feel that ALL public schools should be like this.

But I don't think anyone else should pay for me to homeschool my children.

  12. No.  We don't get paid, in money, for any of the other things we do for our families.  Teaching is part of the job.

  13. No, the government would be doing the paying, so they would have a say on how and what I teach my children.

  14. Are you referring to some sort of salary?

In that case I would have to say no, just like I do not believe home school families should take any tuition assistance, or tax credits for the cost of home schooling their children.

Home schooling is, and should be completely parent directed.

We choose home schooling because that is how we choose to live, raise, and educate our children.

The effort we put into this can not be measured in dollars, and was never meant to be.

The results are priceless, just like our children.

We receive more than a paycheck could ever cover.

  15. no

  16. Nope, I don't think I should be paid to raise my kids. I do so because I am paid in other ways, in addition to how it 'pays' my children for me to raise them.

Remember: schools are a service offered so families don't have to do the educating themselves.

  17. No way!

  18. No, I wouldn't expect payment for homeschooling my own children. However, at one point, before I felt like I was able to homeschool my children, I had considered letting one of my friends from church school my children. She had homeschooled her 3 children and they had all gone to college and were in stable careers. Had we gone that route, we would have paid her for teaching our children to compensate her for her time.

  19. I do get paid!

I get paid every time one of my babies learns something new and I get to say I taught it to them. I get paid by the look on their faces when they have accomplished one of their goals. I get paid every time I wake up and they are there ready to learn!

Being a mom is so rewarding and homeschooling is one of the benefits!

  20. No...because the moment you accept any sort of payment for educating your kids, the powers-that-be will expect a say in what you teach them and how you teach it.

  21. As a homeschooling mom, I'd say no.

I do think that the tax dollars that we pay for public schools should be attached TO THE CHILD, instead of to their LEA. Right now, I pay taxes to educate my child, and the government isn't doing it. What do they do with all that money?

  22. Homeschooling mothers are already paid with the joy of seeing their children learn, with hugs and kisses from their children, with seeing their children reach important milestones in learning, with spending time with their children, etc.
