  1. No one that is of sound mind and judgment should loose their right to drive however I believe that all people should retake their driers test every two years.........

    MARCH 2008

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among 15- to 20-year olds.

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, 3,490 drivers in this age group died in motor vehicle crashes in 2006 and an additional 272,000 were injured.

Drivers age 15- to 20-years old accounted for 12.9 percent of all the drivers involved in fatal crashes and 16 percent of all the drivers involved in police-reported crashes.

Twenty-five percent of teen drivers killed were intoxicated. In 2002 (latest data available) the estimated economic cost of police-reported crashes involving drivers between the ages of 15 and 20 was $40.8 billion, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA, http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov ).

Among licensed drivers, young people between the ages of 15 and 20 have the highest rate of fatal crashes relative to other age groups, including the elderly. In fact, the risk of being involved in a fatal crash for teens is three times greater than for drivers age 65 to 69.

Immaturity and lack of driving experience are the two main factors leading to the high crash rate among teens.

  2. I personally think that older people age 70 and up shouldn't be able to drive because most of them have trouble seeing and the others can barely move which causer them to hold up traffic.

And for the younger people age 16 and under I don't advice them to get behind a wheel of a car unless they have tooken  defense driving lesson. That helps alot.

  3. yes

  4. There are people who are safe to drive at ages over 90.  I watched a programme on driver testing, and they showed a fellow who passed a retest at 100 years old, and he still worked a part-time sales route.  My father-in-law is 80, and is a good driver.  He does not drive much at night, because he is more comfortable in daylight, that is his choice.  There are people of all ages not fit to be on the road.  You can't take an age and say that is when everybody should quit, it makes you an agist.

People under 21 have more accidents from driving stupidly, because they believe they are invincible, and know everything as well.  There is a reason most senior drivers qualify for good driving discounts.

  5. I would agree with you if you would be willing to take elderly people when and where they want to go. say your at the beach and granny wants to go to the store, you leave and go take her all those old people were just like you at one time and sooner than you think you will be like them. be careful what you wish for.

  6. ANYONE who can demonstrate they have the required skill should be allowed to drive.

Those over, say, 70, and those under 20 should be tested every year (in MY opinion)
