  1. yep

if it had been built last year it would be full now after the recent rain & we need the water

  2. Well, we definitely don't want a scare like we had recently with the dams below 20%.  I'm on tank water and have been for years but it still was pretty scary stuff.

In saying that, I feel terribly sorry for the people who live in the Mary Valley because it looks like a beautiful spot.  I feel bad that innocent people are going to lose their homes because the Qld government didn't have the foresight to plan earlier for the influx of people moving here.

I know the Mary Valley people will be compensated monetarily but does this make up for memories lost and being uprooted from the place you call home?

  3. What I think does not matter as it is going ahead anyway. But as you asked. The positives is that it will provide water to the booming population growth that has happen in Queensland. the negatives is that it forced all the people out of their homes and the government payed the houses less then their value at the time.

  4. Yes, it is a shame for the people that live there, but it is needed. It's going to be needed eventually even if the drought breaks completely and we recycle and desalinate more water.

I actually saw a neat protest sign when driving through the area, it had a boat up on a mast indicating the planned water level. Not 20 meters down the road there was a billboard advertising Underwater World.

  5. The bottom line is we NEED MORE WATER retaining devices. Where we build them should be common sense.... where it rains the most. I know that Tully rains heaps so common sense says that a dam up there would be logical and have water piped down to the dry areas via a pipe line next to the railway.

It not the solution but it's the start.

Do we want more water restrictions or more water that's the question!
