Do u think that grass contains more alcohol than corn?

  1. Niether contain alcohol, and neither contain much sugar either.  Corn, especially the type of corn used to make ethanol, contains mostly starch.  Grass contains mostly cellulose.


  2. Neither one contains alcohol.  They contain sugar, which they make from the CO2 they get from the air and the water they get from the ground (together with some extra energy they get from the sun). The sugar can then be fermented then distilled to make the alcohol.   I would expect the corn has more than grass, but I've really never looked into it.

  3. One study that I read, stated that Switchgrass would produce more usable fuel than corn for less energy output to harvest.

    I believe that the article I read was published in the Successful Farming magazine earlier this year. I think, if I remember correctly, that corn produced something like 3 units of fuel for every unit used for harvest and production, where switchgrass produced 8 units for every 1 used, but at this time I am not sure if my memory is correct.
