  1. generally yes. You don't survive parenthood without patience. Or your kids may not survive it! = )

I must say I don't consider myself a very patient person. I have two kids, but people who new me "before" and "after" think I have become a lot more patient.

I do think people with kids are a bit more tolerant and understanding.

  2. In many cases yes. I am an oldest child and never wanted children because I feel like I've been there, done that.My mother put a lot of responsibility on me when I was just a child. My siblings all changed when they had children. They became nicer, more mature, more understanding. And certainly more patient. I have a lot of respect for all they've accomplished as parents. They are all great parents. I sometimes feel like I've missed out on that experience, but all in all I am happy with what I've done with my life. And I am a mite less patient than they are, but that's okay.

  3. Giving birth and parenting doesn't necessarily make one more tolerant or patient than not having children.  Don't believe me?  All you have to do is go into any department store or a fast food restaurant and you'll see PLENTY of instances of parents who are at the end of their rope from stress and shreiking impatiently at their kids, or yelling at them for spilling or knocking over something...or berating them publicly simply for being kids!

Also, I've seen people who don't have children who are very patient and understanding.  I think saying that non-parents aren't patient, understanding or compassion is a bias thing.

  4. I heard a great saying once: "Patience is something parents have when there are witnesses", I think that sums it up quite nicely!
