Question:

Do u think this idea is silly?

So I am writing a fantasy novel which takes place in a country of snow populated with ice creatures. But instead of the snow being white in the beginning, it starts off a very light blue.

I know it might sound silly but I am trying to stay away from the Narnia book. I want to start it off with blue snow, and later, see what happens, and if it changes.

What do u think? And no rude comments please :)

  1. No I don't think thats silly it might be a good idea

  2. Kitten Luver,

Fantasy novels (especially) are full of silly ideas and that's in fact what makes them sell. There's nothing wrong with light blue snow that I could see. In a parallel world that might be just the thing to keep people reading your words.

Just keep editing yourself as you go along. Take out things you really don't need and refresh the sentences with new ideas. This is what keeps people turning the pages.

    Good luck!

  3. There is never a silly book.

    And you know what,

it just might be a silly idea,

but it just might get you places.

Its a good idea to stay away from Narnia,

but im interested in what else would happen.

    Good luck :)

  4. I think it's a great idea!

The snow could be a like a "mood ring" where it changes colors with certain events.

Since the order of colors in the light spectrum is

    red

    orange

    yellow

    green

    blue

    indigo

    violet

Your blue beginning is near the middle.  Perhaps that indicates that the country/world is well. Nothing spectacular is happening, good or bad. And, as it does, your snow color can shift.

  5. It's your book and the author makes the best parts of the book so if you like it then go ahead whats the point of a book if the author didn't put thier ideas in it

  6. Sounds fantastic but yes make sure to stay away from narnia themed things. Critics can get pretty nasty if you are taking other books ideas.

  7. well since i'd like to know more about what will happen, it sounds good to me.

  8. i am sorry but i really dont get it. it is sort of weird and r the ice creatures gonna be normal or like not ppl like. and i think u shod stick with white snow

  9. I love it!  I think it's inventive and creative, just go with it and you never know what you might end up with or if details will change with revisions, writing is compelling in that aspect.  Maybe its not even called snow? Go with it, sounds good!

  10. One thing that you have to consider is that your readers know what snow looks like.  Snow is white (or yellow, but that's another issue), not blue.

If your snow is blue, you need to have a reason for it.  If you have blue snow with no explanation, you'll alienate your readers.  Bread tastes like bread.  Rain is wet.  The sky is blue.  Grass is green.

If the sky is yellow, there needs to be some reason.  If bread tastes like chicken, the reader will want to know why.

Is it silly?  No, not really.  Just back it up with some good details.  Why is the snow blue?
