Do unlocked phones work?

I have at&t and my red a737 is about to break. What i really want is a side kick. but i want to keep my at&t service. I want to know is a unlocked sidekick will workand will i have to pay more a month if i get it. Like the 30$ more a month for an iphone.

You can find an unlocked sidekick on eBay pretty easily.  It will work for texting and voice immediately as soon as you put the SIM in the phone.

In order to setup data (for web browsing and e-mail), you might need to call AT&T Mobility for help in changing some of the settings on the phone.  Of course all of the T-Mobile stuff preloaded on the phone (such as t-zones) won't work on AT&T's network.

Any unlocked phone will work with any GSM carrier. You shouldn't have to pay an extra fee for using an unlocked sidekick with your current At&t plan.

However, good luck finding an unlocked sidekick, because I know that only t-mobile carries them. I know it can be done though, because my friend bought an unlocked sidekick [from I don't know where] and it worked just fine with her at&t current plan.

...except I don't think things like AIM worked because she didn't have any additional internet stuff on her plan.

Yes the phone will work. Just carry the $15 unlimited MediaNet Plan and a Text Plan ($5 for 200 text, $15 for 1500 text or $20 for unlimited) and you should be able to text, surf the net on your phone as much as you want.
