Question:

Do users at eBay usually leave feedback AS SOON as they get the item they paid for?

I paid someone for something to be delivered via UPS (3-5 business days) before supposedly being shipped within 2 business days.

I paid full amount on July-15 very early in the morning, received a feedback from the seller, and the order details said "Shipped on July-16" the whole time, even when it was July-15.

The thing is, it hasn't been shipped and I'm getting worried because according to the seller's feedback (6100+ positive) there is an average of 2 weeks between the feedback he leaves after receiving payment, and the ones he receives from the buyers regarding the item itself.

Is this normal or am I getting screwed over?

  1. I think you're asking the wrong question. What you should be asking is: is it normal for postage to take a while- yes it is.

And if you say the average is 2 weeks before a response, then I wouldn't get worried unless its more than 2 weeks.

Most sellers won't even leave feedback before the buyer does, they use it as leverage for you to leave good feedback for them so they dont give you bad feedback in revenge. The fact that he has put good feedback to you first is probably a good sign. It means you can be honest in your feedback for them without worrying about repurcussions.

but if 2 weeks seems normal for this seller, wait 2 weeks. postage sucks.

  2. Ask the seller to give you the UPS tracking number.

Then go to www.ups.com and check where your package is.

If he cannot provide a tracking number, file a claim via Paypal and you will get your money back.

If you did not pay via Paypal, you are at the seller's mercy or can go to small claims court.

Each eBay seller has different feedback policy... some leave feedback as soon as they receive the payment, some do whenever they get around to doing it, others only leave feedback after the buyer left one.

  3. E-mail the seller and tell him/her that the item hasn't been received yet.  How did you pay for it?  If you paid via Paypal, you can have them investigate it for you if not too much time has passed.  I once had this happen to me and I kept e-mailing the seller, who did not respond.  I tried to have Paypal intervene, but I had let too much time elapse before contacting them.  Every once in a while, the seller would e-mail me back promising me it was sent, but it wasn't.  I threatened to leave negative feedback for her and that seemed to rattle her.  I never got the merchandise, but I did get a refund ... finally after about 3-4 months.  Good luck!
