Vegans believe that ANIMALS are capable of experiencing pain and suffering so we don't eat ANIMALS.  Yeast are not members of the animal kingdom; they belong to the same kingdom as mushrooms and other fungi.  We absolutely do eat yeast because it doesn't have a brain or a nervous system and cannot suffer.

Vegetarians eat anything except animal related bio-products.  Fruits, vegetables, and yeast all not from the animal kingdom, which means there is nothing wrong with a vegan eating them.

Ethical vegans, like myself, endeavour not to use or consume products which involve the exploitation of ANIMALS. Yeast, although living, is not an animal.

The reason why we draw a line between animals and other living things such as yeast and plants is the fact that animals have a central nervous system and thus are able to feel pain. Vegan believe that it is unethical to make another creature suffer in order to satisfy our  wants and desires.

Yeast can not feel pain/suffer and so we feel it is ok to eat it.

As a side note, vegans do not consume some brands of bread and beer due to other animal by products being used in their processing e.g. milk in bread, isinglass (made from the swim bladders of fish) in beer

yes, because they don't come from an animal. We DONT eat meats, but we DO eat: breads, and plants, and fruits, and veges!!! Hope I helped!!
