  1. I feed my cat holistic, human-grade pet food from companies like Wellness and Pet Promise.  They contain meat, but are dedicated to humane treatment of farmed animals.  Some animals are just born carnivores, and it's both cruel and ignorant to give them an unhealthy diet.

  2. Dogs are actually omnivores and can survive on a vegetarian diet, but obviously wouldn't do that in the wild.  Some vegans do put their dogs on vegan diets, but I don't think that it's natural.

Cats are carnivores.  They must consume meat as their primary source of food.  In fact, if meat is not the first ingredient listed on your cats' cat food, it can take up to 5 years off their life.  (So make sure it's not rice or something like that).  Also, if you have an outside cat, they will catch their own mice and birds and eat them anyway, so there is no point in trying to kill them with a vegan diet.

  3. I'll speak for cats.I have 2  and they eat normal cat food. Cats are obligate carnivores. They can't properly digest vegetation. Ever seen a cat eat grass? Trust me when I say a few minutes later you'll see a cat puking. Here's some info.

  4. i personally couldnt imagine imposing my views on my pet they are actually natural born meat eaters (humans were never meat eaters they chose to be ) so i wouldnt go against nature on that one and as someone trying to be vegan i think its ridiculous i think the animal would be miserable i perfer natural and organic knowing where the food my pet eats is coming from above all and no perservatives and artficial ingredients

  5. I know a lot of vegans that actually feed their pets a vegan diet as well. I think it's kind of silly, actually. But...whatever floats your boat.

  6. I'm vegan and I feed my cat meat.

To try and feed a cat a vegetarian or vegan diet is a cruelty; they are carnivores and need meat. Anyone who isn't prepared to feed them meat shouldn't keep a cat.

Unless you keep a cat locked up in the house (another cruelty) it would be supplementing that veg*n diet at neighbours' houses (cats aren't silly) and with birds and mice, so your efforts would be wasted.

  7. Animals like cats are obligate carnivores and need meat to live. I know a vegan who has a dog but won't adopt a cat because she does not want to feed any meat to an animal companion. She feeds the dog a vegetarian pet food formula. It seems to work.

As far as I know, dogs have a hard time digesting raw veggies or plants. That's why dogs eat grass to purge themselves.

  8. They feed their pets what the pet is supposed to be fed for the most part. Granted, some try to impose their own choices on their pets, but like humans, they need to be informed and aware of nutritional needs.

  9. No they usually feed them meat-based foods.  What do you think they do with the baby chicks after they s*x them?  That would be the Animal By Products on any bag of dog food.

  10. In my book, the point of veganism is to eat naturally, like our "species" was meant to eat.  For humans, I believe that is pretty much vegan.  But dogs are carnivores, it is natural for their species to eat meat.  It is cruel to feed a dog a vegan diet.  Their bodies are not meant for it.

  11. I am vegan but do not feed my cats a vegan or vegetarian diet! Humans can certainly thrive without eating meat, but a cat is a carnivore! I do feed my cats mostly holistic food though!

  12. i personally wouldn't feed my cat veg*n food but i know people who do. it is in their nature to eat meat, unlike with humans. the animals still may be tortured, but it is natural and necessary for a pet and i wouldn't take that away from them. maybe a non-animal tested pet food though :]

  13. i'm not going to debate with anyone on this. i'm simply saying, i'm vegan, and seeing as my mother buys the food, my cats and dog all eat regular meaty food. When I live without my mother, I WILL be buying vegan cat food. It IS possible. I've done research. It's just like how people say a person can't survive on a vegan diet....or a baby, etc....anything or anyone can if you do it right and properly.

  14. Pets and livestock are NOT NATURAL by Creation. As you know they were breeded, manipulated, culled and are clearly a product of cruelty if you really witnessed how they were produced -One reason why vegans do NOT support pets- unless they are adopted from a orphanage home or those gone astray. It is part of the animal welfare that vegans really concern.

Anyway, animals those raised at home could be fed with vegetarian/vegan diet. If you confront abt the NUTRITION MATTERS ALONE, it is always possible for them to be vegetarians too- no doubt about it. But they would not possess the “hunting” desire that from a natural jungle habitat.

  15. I don't know what vegans do but I do know that cats cannot survive without meat!!!

  16. I have two vegan cats.  Some animals can adjust to it and some can't.  My two princesses were lucky, though.

  17. You need to talk to your vet about this, as some animals cannot exist on a vegan/vegetarian diet.

In my case, I have a greyhound; a vegan diet would kill her as she needs a high-protein diet.
