that using a horse to ride on is cruel? Like if a rancher or someone has a horse as a means to get around on, do you think this cruel to the animal ??

I am just curious and really do not want rude comments.

  1. I dont believe its cruelty to ride a horse. Just dont weep them or race them. Im vegan btw.

  2. i'm a vegetarian & i think its really cruel to force animals to carry us aroud i mean what if you had to carry people around on your back for the rest of your life and the only thing you get out of it if the food and water they give you

  3. no i dont think its cruel

  4. Horses are not people, when some people mix up human rights with animal rights it really freaks me out. Humans would still be living in caves if it wasn't for animals like horses. Horse racing is cruel, but there are many people who love and care for their horses and don't over work or abuse them.

BTW: you can 'break' a horse without being cruel to it.

  5. Personally, I think that riding horses is wrong. Just as it would be wrong to raise a sub-race of humans explicitly for the purpose of riding them for our own amusement.

Is it morally acceptable for other sentient beings to be "broken in"? locked up periodically? have people jump on their back and ride them without consent? No.

Whether or not the horse in questioned is treated "humanely" is irrelevant, the horse is still used. It has no worth other than that of its "purpose". By riding horses we consider them property, not individuals.

EDIT: Dazewolf, you are right to say that if a horse did not want to be ridden than it would buck and kick the human trying to do so. This is what every horse does before it is broken in/"loved"/conditioned . As you can not ask a horse whether or not it wants to be ridden, I suggest that its original reaction is the only way we can gauge its true feelings (before it is "re-trained").

I never suggested that all horses hate the humans that ride them, just as not all fighting dogs hate their "trainers" and not all slaves hated their "masters". It is a matter of conditioning.

What I am saying is that by riding horses we are reducing their worth to that of an object with a purpose and use. Even if a rider loves their horse (as I'm sure many do), that horse is still considered their property, not a being with its own rights.

  6. I'm a vegetarian and i do not think it is cruel

I have horse riding friends and they ADORE their horses they brush them and love to be with them

but horse races however are cruel

    ans spurs

  7. everyones view on cruelity is different , i personally think that riding a horse is not cruel. However if you ride a horse for a long priod of time and dont give it food or water then thats cruel. If you whip it with out reason thats cruel too.

  8. i think its a normal thing your not harming the animal

  9. It just not right to do so. Does not mean we should "create" whatsoever reasons or excuses to make it right. We can't live in this world in a "perfect" way anyway. you would not gain a single cent if someone else does not lose it. Just admit this reality. But I still believe that the "golden rule" is absolutely right justice, if there no religious overrule, if there is no law & order override.

  10. no its not cruel unless you are overworking the animal or not careing for it properly or the rider is too large for the size of the horse. God designed horses to be ridden,

  11. I don't have a legit opinion on this since I am neither vegan nor vegetarian, but I'd like to comment on Jess who said that horses are ridden without consent.

Man, if a horse did not want somebody on him, he would buck him to the ground and kick his jaw in. Sure, there are some horses who are truly "broken in" cruelly, which is a terrible practice, but you cannot presume that all horse riding is bad and that horses hate their companions who ride them.

Even wild horses can be "loved" into allowing someone to ride them.
