I bought a 1970 Cadillac Deville this morning, and the guy told me they didnt issue titles for late model cars like that. Is that ture? All I have is a bill of sale. Is that the only way I can show proof of ownership?

  1. You mean to say earlier than 1975...  It depends on the state.  In Alabama, it's true.  Don't know what other states.

  2. All vehicles have titles and they always have had titles.  The guy handed you a line of BS.  A seller is obligated to provide the buyer with a merchantable title.  The buyer should never, ever hand over one red cent without first having a title in his hands.  Your bill of sale is no good.  You don't legally own that car.  The name of the person on the title (wherever and whoever it may be) is the legal owner and BTW is still responsible for that car.  Get a title !

  3. Yes

  4. all vehicles have titles.  Take your bill of sale to the DMV.  They should be able to work this out for you.
