  1. yes  i thing so,

  2. Yes, they do DNA testing for birds, to find out their origin and their gender.

  3. I can tell you they do. I have 2 avian vets and there are many breeds that can only be sorted out by a blood test. I have one of those. I also have one that needs a test and plan on doing that soon.

Good to know if you have a female so you can watch for egg binding. That is my reason why.

You can also do a DNA test for birds through the Internet if you don't want to pay the vet, Make sure it's a reliable site though. They mail you a test kit.

there are all of your options! :)

  4. i have 2 birds ace an bluee and no i dont think so

  5. Best to call your vet and ask. My avian vet doesn't do the testing himself but he will take blood samples and send them away for me.

It is very easy to do yourself though. After I saw my vet do it I sent away for my own kit and have done my birds myself with no problems.

I got a kit from MDS (Molecular diagnostic services) but I think this may just be an Australian company. A quick search online will find a testing center somewhere in your area.

Anyway, kits come with very detailed instructions, a sterile needle, a capsule and a little strip of paper stuff to put a drop of blood on.

It is a lot cheaper than a vet. My vet charges $79 for the visit and testing on top of that. Doing the test myself by mail order costs me $17 per bird with a sexing certificate. Takes about 7 days to get the results via email, and the certificate comes about a week after that.

  6. why would they need to?  to see who's the daddy?

  7. A good Avian vet can test D.N.A of birds by three ways Surgically, Blood sample and Droppings.

    So the answer is Yes.

The latter two are the safest,Blood and Droppings.
