okay well me and my friends were talking about getting married, we're only 16 we're not getting married anytime soon, and i said that i wanted to wear a blue dress and my friend told me that if i was going to "save myself" for when I'm married then i have to wear a white dress at my wedding. but then my other friend said that no that wasn't what a white dress meant, its just traditional. help me settle an argument, is a white wedding dress for virgins or its it just traditional.

  1. not in todays days.

    =]

  2. traditional. you can wear whatever you want. i read an article where a couple had a halloween themed wedding and the bride wore a black and red gown. im not a virgin and im wearing white.

  3. Well back in the day you where a virgin till you got married and white is the means pure so that is what they wore because in that way they where "pure" but now people wear white wedding dresses even if they have slept with over 8 different people(not that that is a bad thing I'm just saying) so now it is just done out of tradition most of the time. so both are right! and you can wear whatever makes you happy because that is all that really matters on your wedding day!

    Hope this helps,

    Ashleigh

  4. its traditional.

i mean everyone wears white dresses (or that i know of)

and do you think they are all virgins?

yeah right give me a break

  5. A white wedding dress is supposed to symbolize purity and virginity.  If you're not a virgin, you're supposed to wear a colored dress.  However, I know tons of people who wore white dresses and were not virgins.

  6. long ago the tradition started that the bride would wear a white dress.

the white dress stood for being pure. (in other words: A VIRGIN!)

A lot of people still go by that, but you dont have to wear a white dress if you dont want to! my grandma got married in a pretty baby blue dress!

you dont have to be a virgin to wear a white dress, and you can wear a white dress if you're not a virgin...

    it doesnt matter.

  7. that is what one of my friends said and i wantted to wear a purple dress. idk if that is true ill probly just wear a white dress with a purple ribbon. you could do that but with blue. i also heard that if you are getting married for the first time you wear white.

  8. It's tradition, but you can wear whatever color dress you want on your wedding, virgin or not.

  9. I don't think that has anything to do with it.

Most women wear white dresses and most women don't save themselves for marriage.

  10. these days it doesnt matter what color you wear, but traditionally, the bride would wear white for her first marriage.

  11. Everythin should be white - dress, shoes, hose n panties (if you're planning on wearing any).

  12. just traditional you can do whatever you want. it's your wedding.

  13. That used to be the thing, that virgins wear white to their wedding, but these days many women wear peach and many other colors. It's a tradition that you don't necessarily have to follow, you do what makes you happy (:

  14. well i think your not meant to wear white.

but most people would hide it anyway.

    white=purity of marriage.

  15. it is both!!! white stands for purity. meaning "saving yourself" and its also traditional. many people that are not virigns now wear white.

  16. Both!! lolo its a tradition to wear a white dress to show you kept ur purity until marrige. but of course a lot of those who arent virgins wear whit and other people just like to wear other colors

  17. I so agree with previous answers.

Now its more of a fashion, trend and self preference rather than the old white virgin tradition that must be followed.

In any case, suit your likings and style ya.

  18. Traditionally a white bridal gown signifies a virgin bride.  Realistically a lot of women who wear them at their weddings are not virgins.  There have even been quite a few instances where the bride was pregnant and wore a white gown.

I wouldn't wast a lot of time worrying about it.  If you plan on being a virgin when you get married and don't want people to think you aren't one you might want to reconsider your choice of colors for your dress--but they will probably speculate anyway.  They almost always do.

So follow your heart and wear the color you like best, but consider a white gown if you want to have a scandal-free wedding.

  19. Wearing a white wedding dress does symbolized virginity.

  20. In the past the white dress was a symbol of purity, since you always were a virgin when you got married. In today's society most people that get married aren't virgins, but still wear the white dress. Ultimately it's up to you, however if you want to "save yourself" for when you're married you're going the traditional way and so I'd wear white.

  21. its both people used to wear white wedding dresses because white represented purity an back then people were usually virgins when married but its also become a tradition to were i white wedding dress

you should were what ever colour you want i mean it is your big day you shouldnt have a little thing like that wory you

  22. I've always believed it's traditional.

Maybe your friend heard that white is symbolic for purity and may make the bride seem "virginal" and misinterpreted it?

  23. The perfect day calls for the perfect dress, which may be any color you choose to have it.  Some like keeping the traditional white dress, maybe with a colored bow along the waistline, and others will ditch tradition and choose any color of dress that suits their desires.

  24. that was old tradition we live in modern times you can wear whatever you want girl! i personally was not a virgin nor was my husband but we both wore white anyways!!!

  25. white is just traditional

  26. It is traditional, but a the same time the white represents the purity of virginity for the girls, not for guys. If you are a guy whether you are a virgin or not. I doesn't matter if you don't wear white.
