It seems like a great job for someone like me who loves food, knows food and in college. So do waiters at fine dining restaurants really get paid/ tipped more than $200 a night ? What are the negatives and positives of being a waiter?

  1. Well tips really depend on alot of things, like the service of the waiter or waitress, the restaurant itself...ect...but I worked @ a Pizza Hut!!! and brought home about $150 in tips a night some nights it wasn't that much cause we were slower but still some nights it was much more cause we were hammered all day long. You can usually make pretty good money waiting tables anywhere as long as you are good at it, and it's not easy work, you have to be very good with people and a bit of a suck up (sorry but it's true). You need to make the customers experience with you memorable so that next time they come in they request you...things like remembering names, birthdays, commenting on new hair that kind of thing will take you a long way....of course there are always going to be those people who no matter what are going to be a**es and you just have to smile and go on.

  2. Fine dining is a great way to make money, but it's really hard to get a job without experience. Get an entry level job waiting table any where tthat will hire you and you will learn the skills necessary to move into fine dining.  Waiting table is a great way to make money, but people can be so horrible it may not be worth it.

  3. My friend works at a really fancy restuarant in New York.  He makes about $300 in tips a night.  This job is basically his career.  It's not just something he does on the side. But if you do $300 x 5 days a week x 45 weeks a year; that's over $65,000 a year!
