Do walking stick insects sting or bite?

Yes my daughter just had her hand in the kitchen drawer and started to feel something like a bee sting - we found a stick insect in there waving it's little pincher around like he wanted more.  Ice and hypercal and the sting is receding after 10 minutes...

Yes, We live in Northern Virginia and we have walking sticks that bite. They look like a regular brown walking stick. My wife went to move one off of the car tire before she left for the store and it bit her. Her skin got red and she said it felt like a bee sting.
My friend just had the same thing happen to him tonight. His bite created a bump where the redness was.
