  1. You should. They don't make a lot of money from their wages and are dependent on tips. They have to use their own transportation and gas to get the food to you. Food delivery people risk their lives in this kind of work- risk being robbed, hurt, and killed going to strange places. But somebody's gotta do it.

It's not a big deal to give a few dollars or a percentage of what the food cost. If you don't want/can't tip, then you should just pick up your food yourself. At least you'll get some fresh air and exercise before you gorge on the fast food.

  2. I live in New Zealand, but used to live in the UK.

In the UK, it is standard to give a TIP of 10% of the total bill.

Here in NZ, I don't think anybody gives TIPS!

I was a waitress in the UK, and all TIPS were put in a jar and equally distributed amongst the staff (based on how many hours they'd worked), which sucked, because the good workers (including myself) would get heaps of TIPS and have to share it with everyone else. I think that if you give the delivery guy a TIP, make sure it's going in his pocket!!

And yes, he is already being paid for his services, so you should not have to give a TIP.

  3. yea u should, gas is so d**n expensive nowadays

  4. Well here in Australia we aren't big on tipping. Infact I have never seen anyone tip before. If I were rich I would tip someone who has done a job extremely well but not just someone who is doing their job. You are right, they are getting paid for what they do. If they aren't earning enough and don't like it, get another job.

  5. Well,,,,YEAH. They do get paid, but very little, because the tips are supposed to make up for the small hourly wage.

  6. It is always appreciated.

Think of the time, money, wear and tear you save by having the food come to you! I used to work for Domino's and drove my own car. We only got 50 cents extra for mileage for each pie and were paid slightly above minimum wage per hour. Doing deliveries wears out your starter, your brakes, your tires, headlights, brake lights, etc.,puts a lot of mileage on your car, and can be personally dangerous if you meet up with the wrong people. If you drove a company car you got squat beyond hourly pay. We also helped make the pies, kept the make line stocked with ingredients, folded pizza boxes, and cleaned up per health codes, Extreme Clean! Plus, if your cash was short for some reason and the the difference didn't show up by the end of the night, then hey, it came out of your pocket! Your fault or not!

Even if you only shell out 50 cents to a dollar it still adds up to a few extra bucks at the end of the night for the person that's making your life easier.

If you don't have it to spare, that's fine. If it's late or cold or unsatisfactory, then heck no!  Give 'em a penny! Let your conscious be your guide....

  7. man, that is so freakin cheap!! no none is going to make you tip the person, and yes, they are getting paid, but c'mon, you know they rely on their tips to make the job worth going to.

i could go pick up my $10 pizza, but if someone is delivering it for me, i am more than happy to give them a few bucks for the comfort of staying at home.

    cheap cheap cheap!!

  8. Absolutely - they make minimum wage and depend on tips for most of their income.

  9. Yes you must tip!!! Food delivery drivers do get an hourly wage but its on the low side because their pay is adjusted by employers knowing their drivers get tips. This job should be basically considered a mobile waiter/waitress service. The rule of thumb is to always tip service workers. These peoples livelihood depends on it!!!

  10. YES! Their pay is usually very low because the employer's know they will be getting tips. Show some class, and tip the person bring you the food.

  11. I would say no

what most people dont know, is that tip is an ACRONYM

    it means To Insure Promptness

if your delivery is late, they didnt insure promptness, they didn't earn the t.i.p.

if your delivery is late forget the tip

if its on time, well..gas costs 4 bucks a gallon, give em something for the trouble
