Do we earn eternal salvation, or did Jesus earn it in our stead?

If Jesus didn't earn it for us, then why did he suffer & die? The law already had a means for salvation, didn't it? What did he accomplish which wasn't contained within the Law of Moses & the commandments?

  1. NO, nobody can earn eternal salvation, not even all the money in the world can earn that, it's priceless. Money cannot buy eternity. Nobody earned it for us but instead it was given freely to us. All we have to do is accept it through Jesus the one who gives it with the authority from God the Father. Accept Christ and you automatically accepted eternal salvation, it's the total package. =)

  2. Yes, Jesus earned salvation for us.  By one man, Adam, we all fell, and by one man, Christ Jesus, we are all made alive.  He lived a perfect life for us, because we couldn't.  He is the righteousness which exceeds, "the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees"; Matt 5:20. Matt 5:17-19, Jesus tells us that he came "...not to destroy, but to FULFILL" the law.  He fulfilled it ALL with His perfect life, and "not one jot or one tittle" passed from that law until He had fulfilled it.  The only way that He could die was by taking our sins upon himself.  If that isn't earning us eternal salvation, then I don't what it is.
