Do we have to have a passport to cross the border to mexico? I heard the date is now 2009?

ok so as of january 1st when i went this was the deal. if you are only walking across you don't need a passport until June 1st of 2008.  i asked before i went with some friends that didn't have a passport. if you are flying you do need one.

"sister" is "misiformed." Passports are NOT needed for LAND travel to and from Mexico.  The date has not yet been set but will be later than next summer, and possibly not til 2009.  See site below and read top half of page carefully.  You can check this site from time to time as this is where new info is posted first.

Yes, we Americans have to have a passport to enter Mexico, but they can walk over anytime and apparently live here and have jobs and get free benefits like sending their children to public school which we pay for.
